About

Delivery apps are full of "restaurants" that aren't really restaurants. A lot of them are virtual brands: a delivery-only name run out of an existing kitchen you already know. ghostbuster.dev is a tiny tool to unmask them. Type a name, and if it is one of these, we reveal who is really cooking.

We have no beef with kitchens experimenting with new concepts. But when it's Chuck E. Cheese trying to sling pizza under a different name on the delivery apps, we take offense.

Why this exists

One night I saw a new restaurant on the app and got excited to order a cheesesteak from Pardon My Cheesesteak. I assumed it was a local spot that had just popped up. What showed up was extremely low quality, and it turned out the "restaurant" was just IHOP wearing a mask. That was the moment this idea was born.
